Kritzerland is proud to present the delightful German cast recording of
MEIN FREUND BUNBURY
Music by Gerd Natschinski
Lyrics by Jurgen Degenhart
Libretto by Helmut Bez and Jurgen Degenhart, based on Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Ernest
This absolutely delightful, tuneful, and fun German musical adaptation of The Importance of Being Ernest, opened in 1964 at the Metropol Theatre East-Berlin, where it was an instant hit. It was filmed for German television in 1970 and has had several revivals over the years. The show has been hailed as the first musical comedy of the DDR.
Gerd Natschinski’s score is very Broadway brassy and filled with hummable tunes, the most hummable which is the title song. The performances of the original cast are well sung and lots of fun – in German, of course. In a way, it’s a shame it was never translated and brought to New York, although just four years prior there’d been an off-Broadway musical version called Ernest in Love.
So, come discover the pleasures of Mein Freund Bunbury, with the Black Bottom and the Charleston and the wonderful world of Oscar Wilde. We think that musical comedy aficionados will find it entrancing. As they say, it might even have you dancing in the aisles.
MEIN FREUND BUNBURY is limited to 500 copies only and priced at $19.98, plus shipping. This is a PRE-ORDER – CDs will ship by the end of January. As you probably know, our pressing plant has been very slow, for which we apologize, and which is why we put the brakes on releases for the past eleven months. They should be back on track now. Also note that your PayPal receipt is the only receipt you get – we don’t send out confirmations beyond that.
