What can you say about Guy Haines that hasn’t already been said? Actually, very little has been said about Guy Haines ever since he arrived on the scene as a recording artist back in 1994. He was an enigma then and he is an enigma now. Oh, the pundits have pundited about him since his first solo track on the first Unsung Musicals album. Incredibly shy about photographs, his photos on the various albums he’s done over the years, including his two solo albums, have never quite revealed his face. And yet, guesses have piled up like tennis balls on a tennis court. Is he real? Is he a figment of someone’s warped imagination? We can all proffer guesses until the cows come home and yet, in the end, all we can ever know is that he is Guy Haines, a Guy singer singing Guy songs.

Guy Haines was one of Harvey Schmidt’s favorites and there are several rare and great Schmidt and Jones songs in this collection. Stephen Sondheim always had nice words to say about Mr. Haines’ vocals. Rupert Holmes once said, “He sounds young” – high praise indeed. His first solo album, Haines His Way, was a surprise hit with aficionados of obscure male singers.

The range of songwriters on this, the complete collection of Guy Haines’ solo studio tracks – twenty-three in all from twenty-three different albums, is amazing. Culled from albums like Lost in Boston and Unsung Musicals, various Sondheim albums, and some lesser-known albums like Shakespeare on Broadway and Prime Time Musicals, Haines worked with incredible conductors and orchestrators. The tracks have been beautifully remastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland. So, climb aboard the Guy train – don’t be a stranger – you can see the great song list and hear audio samples at the Kritzerland website, whose address is below. Also appearing on this seventy-nine-minute CD are some wonderful Broadway singers, including Klea Blackhurst, Harry Groener, Jonathan Freeman, Glory Crampton, Lynnette Perry, and Michelle Nicastro.

Guy Haines – Guy Songs is limited to 500 copies only and priced at $19.98, plus shipping. This is a PRE-ORDER – CDs will ship by the third week of September at the latest but will probably ship well before then.
